Change both batteries and tried again, still nothing. However, I found the solution (in the UK at least anyway). Any new 2032 sized batteries in the UK come with a warning sticker about swallowing. If this sticker isn't taken off if blocks the connection inside the key. Removed the warning stickers on each battery and both keys now work. Simple Park the BMW, set the parking brakes, and turn off the engine. Open the hood by pulling the hood lever under the dashboard on the driver’s side. Pull or press the hood release at the front of the hood and lift the hood. Locate the hood switch towards the back of the engine. The hood switch is on top of the plastic over the firewall. 2011 535i F10 delivered 1999 328i E46 retired Rear Differential Fluid Flush Rear Strut, shock absorber, spring replacement Brake Fluid Change / Replacement / Flush Battery Replacement and Registration with Carly Oil Filter Housing Gasket Replacement Serpentine Belt Tensioner Replacement (also cooling fan) Replace the screws as directed. Some of them are single-use. While you're at it, replace all of the rubber hoses. Have a 1/4" and 3/8" swivel adapter and a couple of extensions. You'll need them to reach some of the brackets and water pump screws. Trust me on this one.
Today, the new battery measured 12,5 V out of the circuit and 12,3 V connected to the car. When started the car, the measured voltage on the battery was 14,4 V - this is the charging voltage of the alternator (as I know). When the battery is out if the car, the no-load voltage is higher.
So, if the junction box is defective because of wear and tear, it can cause the battery to discharge while stopped. In this case, the only way to fix this problem will be to replace the old junction box. The replacement cost of a BMW junction box will be between $575 and $737.
Victory story. Had some weak starts and a recommendation from mechanic to replace battery. Battery seemed to be sufficiently charged, but it was almost 5 years old and we don't know it's history for the first 3 years, so we did that for $500. A few days later my wife got stranded at work - car wouldn't start at all.
Got the Battery Discharged orange warning on the dash and the Check Control message. Message says battery charge very low. Is this due to a) lack of use or b) battery is being drained by something or c) battery is needing replacement. Would a full charge using a battery charger do the trick perhaps?
1. The DSC System Is Turned Off. Whether you know it or not, you can turn your DSC system off. All you need to do to turn the system off in a BMW is hold the DSC light for at least three seconds. This will disable the DSC system, which can be helpful if you’re trying to drift.
